PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating after a man was found dead and two women were seriously hurt at an apartment complex early Saturday near 16th Street and Camelback Road.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded around 12 a.m. to reports of a possible shooting at an apartment complex.
When officers arrived, they found a man at the base of a stairwell with a gunshot wound, along with a knife. Two women were found inside an apartment with multiple stab wounds.
The women were taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Officials say the 40-year-old man, who later died at the scene, “arrived at the apartment uninvited and assaulted one of the women. When a second woman attempted to intervene, she was also stabbed.”

According to police, the two women are related, one of them being in a romantic relationship with the suspect.
A neighbor, a 26-year-old man, shot the other man as he continued to attack both women.

The neighbor was later taken into custody but has since been released.
The investigation is ongoing.
